It's coming up on three years since I first washed up at DA and I've noticed a lot of changes over the years at this incredible site. The biggest change I've seen is the increasing desire of many people to just rack up page-views. They produce work in the current trend, they comment and fav in a totally meaningless way in the hope of getting people to visit their page and they generally clog up the site with shit, leaving nothing but a trail of vacuous "really nice" comments.
OK - now that's said - a couple of things.
1) Yes, there are plenty of outstanding artists on DA who fully deserve every last one of their pageviews. This is not aimed at them.
2) No, this isn't some sad way of racking up page-views of my own.
3) No, I'm not 'jealous' of those with higher page-view counts than me.
4) Got a very dirty toilet? Just drop two Alka-Seltzer tablets into the toilet bowl and then wait twenty minutes, brush, scrub and then flush the toilet. The citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous china toilets great!
Too true. Way too true. I know plenty of EXCELLENT artists who has yet to have 1,000 pageviews, while I know... less than excellent artists (no, not necessarily bad, but ... not as good as others I know) who have tens of thousands of pageviews. I'm going to fav this, if you don't mind.
You're right. But I find the subject to be useless to complain about.
Not that you're whining. However, no matter where you go, what you do there and who you surround yourself with, this type of scenario will always exist due to the mindless machines the government's got running these days. It's rare to find someone who really thinks anything through, because as much as we hate to admit it, we're all living our lives in a rush. There's just no stopping the madness.
A cow. Nice touch.
yo, i'm likin this. Just look at me, I satisfy my-own-flaking-self by drawin my crap, and I don't really give a flake if everyone else likes it or not. DUDE, I have like no pageviews and I don't care!! not like they have to like my crap or anything.
Hell! I'm favoriting this one, dokt. and i hope everyone else isn't crap-minded like everyone else; unlike us. uhh... you. man, thanks for pointing this out.

amen to that mister
i especially stand behind ya on the "...if you create something purely for the need for recognition, then you art is soulless..." comment. well said, and yet its such a deep rooted problem that perhaps finds its origins in the fact that closest thing to value and quantification that art here has is pageviews and the number of comments... there's no gauge (and there never will be) for pure or honest or original or any of that nonsense so we flock to the numbers that we can wrap our fingers around (well, not literally).
anyways, a well composed piece of straight forward commentary. (although id be shocked if much becomes of it as many of us feel the same as yourself) nice type layout as well

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
